Scrubs: Season 9 – Scrub School?

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

Here’s the latest on the next season of Scrubs. As more and more is revealed I am more or less hopeful for the future of the show. They said before that, like Frasier was a spin-off of Cheers, the next season would be a similar departure from Scrubs. It seems that is more and more the case.

Producers are looking for a new title for the show, as the direction is moved from a teaching hospital to med school. Word is they’re looking to keep Scrubs as part of the title in some way, but we’ll keep our eyes open for that. One title that ran through my head that could achieve both familiarity as well as help to explain the new format of the show is “Scrub School.” But that’s my own idea and by no means official.

Scrubs – Season 9 Details: Hospital and Med School Settings

Friday, June 19th, 2009

We finally know more about what they’re going to be doing to change the format of Scrubs for the ninth season. I have to admit being slightly worried about the shift in the show, but now I am excited by the prospects that this new format brings to the show. It’ll be interesting to see the show’s new format, and now that we know what the setting will be, I will rest a lot easier about it. And I look forward to future announcements.

This just seems like the right move for the show, and almost like a naturally planned transition for the cast of the show as well as the story. They’ve told the story of an intern rising through the ranks over eight years, and now it’s time for a new story.

ScrubsI was expecting this to happen, and am very hopeful for a brilliant start to a new chapter in the world of Scrubs.  The chapter featuring Dr. John Dorian’s first 8 years, from intern to resident has come to a close, and now it’s time for a new chapter.

Scrubs: Season 8 – The Final Season?

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

Scrubs - My FinaleI just watched the last episode of the season of Scrubs.  I think that was the perfect way to end the series. The episode was full of laughs, tears and a range of emotion, and in the typical fashion of the show, a lesson to learn. You’d think that after eight seasons they’d run out of lessons to teach, but it seems they were saving one for the end of the show as we know it.

I started watching the show with the first episode of season 4. I had seen a few commercials for it, and it looked like something that at its’ worst would make me laugh a little bit. It became one of my favorite shows from the first few minutes of that episode. I started watching it weekly to see if it was consistent. I also started scouring the internet frantically looking for episodes from the first three seasons. It wasn’t available on DVD yet so, yes, I downloaded them. I now own every season on DVD and plan on purchasing season eight when it is available. I’ve been a big fan ever since.

I couldn’t have asked for a better season finale, nor a better season to end the show with. It was top notch for 18 straight episodes.

The question remains: will there be a season nine? After a finale like that, if it ends there, I’m satisfied with it. If it does go on, I do hope the writing team sticks with it, as they seem to be at the top of their game again. The seventh season, while a good season (there wasn’t a bad one, really), didn’t have the memorable episodes save for a few. The new interns are excellent, and if season nine does happen, I look forward to sharing in their adventures.

I would go on, but it’s nearly 2:30am and I need some sleep, so I’ll end this with the final words of the episode: Good night.

The Heroes Score: Finally!

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Heroes ScoreSince the first episode of Heroes, I have wanted to own a recording of the score by Wendy & Lisa.  Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman have composed a unique experience with the score, that sets Heroes apart from traditional superhero soundtracks. The pilot episode was first played at the San Diego Comic Con with a temporary score taken from Batman Begins. That music became the inspiration for the melodies and the tempo that was produced for the shows premiere that fall.

Last year, there was a Heroes soundtrack released (Heroes Orginal Soundtrack-Deluxe Edition), but it’s composed of songs that the writing staff listened to while writing the scripts for the show. It also included a little bit of the score, but all in all I only was able to handle it a couple of listens. It wasn’t something that I enjoyed, as I didn’t really know many of the songs, and if I did, I wasn’t a fan of the artist, for the most part.

The Transformers – The Complete First Season: 25th Anniversary Edition

Monday, April 13th, 2009

The Transformers - Season 1: 25th Anniversary EditionIt’s about time they re-released this.  No offense to Rhino, but the first release of this cartoon was just not up to par. It was a good and noble effort, but it was nothing to really write home about. The menu system left much to be desired, and the features seemed equally slapped together. Not to mention that the menu was so poorly designed, that it wasn’t until months later that I discovered some features that I didn’t even know were actually on the set.

This edition is from a different DVD studio called Shout! Factory. And they’ve pulled out all of the stops on this release. Not only that, but one of the features that they list for the set makes it well worth the upgrade if you’ve already got it: Restored to the original broadcast versions with a new stereo soundtrack created from the original audio.

Other features:

  • Triplechanger: From Toy To Comic To Screen: The Origins Of The Transformers
  • Printable Transport to Oblivion Script
  • Rare PSAs
  • Archival Hasbro toy commercials
  • Limited Edition Autobot magnet inside

The release date for this set is June 16, 2009.

Stargate Universe Teaser and Cast Photo

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

Stargate UniverseWhoa! I almost missed this one. I was initially a little nervous about the new Stargate series: Stargate Universe. But now I can hardly wait for it to begin. Having seen the first photo of the cast, as well as the teaser for the show, I can already see that it’s going to be epic in scope and different enough from the other Stargate shows to be fresh.

Having watched and enjoyed all of the episodes of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis over the last 4 or 5 years (I was late to the fandom) I am pretty happy about catching it from the start for the first time.

Properties that Should Be Movies: M.A.S.K. and Dino-Riders

Saturday, November 15th, 2008

I’m going to start writing a bit about some of my favorite properties when I was young, that I think would make excellent films. Especially if the properties are handled correctly.

Now, some of us know that Voltron and ThunderCats are both being developed for the big screen. If you didn’t: Voltron is going to be live-action, set on our earth, and each of the five space-explorers are now from different walks of life. ThunderCats is going to be half CG and half live-action, apparently.

There was also a new TMNT film in the last few years, with more to come. G.I. Joe is coming to the big screen next summer in G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra. He-Man is constantly having production problems that are holding things up.

The primary properties that I am going to talk about here are two of my favorites that very few of you probably know about: M.A.S.K. and Dino-Riders.

M.A.S.K. stands for Mobile Armored Strike Kommand. The cartoon was basically a mixture of G.I. Joe and Transformers. It involved human characters with special armor that could each do various special things. They also each had various vehicles that doubled as other vehicle forms. One, for example, was a motorcycle that could turn into a mini-helicopter mid-motion. There could be some incredible chase sequences with transforming vehicles like the ones in this cartoon.

Dino-Riders was a cartoon that appealed to me for a number of reasons. First, I loved Dinosaurs, so this had a natural draw in that regard. Second, it had heroes and villains putting armor on the dinosaurs, along with laser beams. What more could you really ask for? The main story of Dino-Riders involved a war between the Valorians, who were under attack by the Rulon Empire. About 400 of them were on board a ship that was under heavy fire from the Rulon leaders, who were close behind. The Valorians activated the “S.T.E.P. Crystal” and travelled back in time to when Dinosaurs walked the earth.

I would love to develop both of these properties for the big screen. Both would be pretty expensive films, but both of them capture the imagination of the youth and would draw crowds. I would be the first in line for both.

Lost Returns January 21 with Season 5

Saturday, November 8th, 2008

One of my favorite shows, Lost, is returning to Wednesday nights at 9 p.m. for the fifth season. It’s going to premiere with a clip show, presumably at 8, followed by a two-hour premiere.

Not only that, but the season will be seventeen episodes long, instead of the sixteen that were originally ordered. This is to compensate for the episodes missed due to the writer’s strike.

Lost is going to run through the end of the sixth and final season, which is expected to start in January or February 2010.

Lost Season 2 Speculation

Tuesday, August 2nd, 2005

Alright. They’ve announced the titles of the first three episodes of Season 2 of Lost. Lost is currently my favorite show on television, so bear with me as I pull out the analyitical side of this blog, and talk about my theories as to what exactly is going to happen, based on the entirety of Season 1, and the mere titles of the episodes. Granted, I could be far off, as Lost is a very very twisting show, but we shall see. And beware, there are season ONE spoilers in here.

Episode One:
“Man of Science, Man of Faith” written by Damon Lindelof
9/21/2005

Speculation: Jack is a doctor, the Man of Science. Locke is the Man of Faith. I believe that this episode will focus on the struggles between these two characters. Both are alpha males, but in many different ways.

Jack has no agenda, seemingly flying by the seat of his pants and rushing into things and making judgement calls on things without really thinking them through, most of the time. He makes many many assumptions and, while he believes he’s in the right most of the time, sometimes he’s wrong and ends up hurting more people than just himself. This is a character without real direction. All we know is that he’s a leader, and that he wants what is best for the people on the island.

Locke is a man of Faith. He’s a somewhat eccentric character that quietly became a favorite of fans of the show. He was paraplegic, but by a miracle he is now able to walk again. What I’d like to know is, what made him paraplegic? “Walkabout” was a great episode featuring him, that revealed this problem, and the next episode (that featured flashbacks of Locke) he could walk. This is a man that believes that they are all there for a reason, that there is some big reason for all of this, and that it is some sort of supernatural force that is responsible for it. Locke is borderline fanatic, and I hope that he does not cross that line, as it could very well destroy the character that they’ve built up so well. I hope that he doesn’t turn out to be a villainous character.

Episode Two:
“Adrift” written by Steven Maeda & Leonard Dick
9/28/2005

Speculation: Adrift will probably feature the survivors still afloat on the remains of the raft: Michael, Jin and Sawyer. Their adventure at sea ended in disaster, and the aftermath, I have a feeling, will be shocking for these characters, as where they end up isn’t where they are going to try to get to. I think they’re going to ain for returning to the island, but come in on the other side and run into more survivors.

Episode Three:
“Orientation” written by Javier Grillo-Marxuach & Craig Wright
10/5/2005

Speculation: In the aftermath of the bouts between Jack and Locke, the people of the island will begin to separate..orienting themselves with the views of either Jack or Locke. This split is a very dangerous thing for the people there, as it causes definite division in the ranks and clique mentality. The only resolution that I can think of, would be if something big happened that required them all to work together, and also required the use of all the skills that they have, including the doctor and the hunter…Jack and Locke.

Well, there you have it..my theories based on the first three episode titles. I took the safer route by just talking about the essenses of the story and staying away from as many specific plot points as I could. We’ll see what holds up, though, when the show comes back.
